National Library of Virtual ManipulativesHands on manipulatives are highly stressed in elementary mathematics, but virtual manipulatives are just as important for students to be able to use in this day and age.Mildenhall, Swan, Northcote & Marshall (2008) suggest “using virtual manipulatives to move the learner from the visual level of thinking to thinking through informal deduction and reasoning” (p.10). The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives provides students this opportunity, organized into different math topics and age levels, ranging from Pre- K to 12th grade. The beauty of virtual manipulatives is that as an educator, you have provided your students access to problem solving resources at home.
